Quiet this Metal is inspired by the plight of those who have been incarcerated or isolated from the world. The music of Quiet This Metal explores that place within us that reaches out from the dark after death, tragedy, isolation and confinement. The concert features works by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Australians Vine, Polglase and Koukias. Quiet This Metal was performed to acclaim in the Ten Days on the Island Festival, Tasmania. One concert took place in the church ruins at the Port Arthur Prison, and another at the former Women's prison (also now a ruin) in the shadow of Mt. Wellington in Hobart. Back to Program Synopses |
